Welcome Back

I started this post back in May. When I finally felt ready to publish, it was May 26th, and I learned of George Floyd's murder. It felt odd that I was finding joy in the midst of a terrible year (granted, my initial goal), which then became more openly grim. Caity and I had been chatting about what to do with our time at home. And well, now I have decided to come back to this blog. I am still baking more and more, and I've decided I'd like to track it.

So here is my post from May 25th, 2020.

Well, it's been a hot minute, but since we've been spending more time at home, Caitlin thought we should blow the dust of our oven and get back at it!

I agree!

I have been baking more than ever, and I think that is only partially Covid related. I am still at work full time, since I am an Emergency Nurse. In fact, I was able to pick up a lot of extra shifts. But since our extracurricular activities are limited ( no going out for drinks, or dinner) I have been spending more time in the kitchen.

So, from around the Web, here are things I made this week!

Skor/toffee cookies, from Bon Appetit, to mix things up from regular chocolate chip.

Buuuut, these are my new, go-to chocolate chip cookies, also from Bon Appetit. Did you do their Baking Challenge? It started before Covid in North America, and I really enjoyed it. It helped me break away from my regular recipes that I have on repeat, and give me confidence in my skills, to try harder things. See next post, ha!

I fiiiiinally joined the sourdough religion with this recipe.  Our friend Matt has been doing Sourdough everything for a good decade now, and regularly links to Maurizio, from The Perfect Loaf, so this is where I started. I will try to do a full post about my experience!

Spring means it is RHUBARB SEAON! So I made a rhubarb compote, which is just 1lb rhubarb, half a cup of granulated sugar, a dash of vanilla, cook down for 30 minutes, add lemon juice. Put on everything.

Did you know it is also Negroni season? In solidarity, I made a jar of Negroni, to share with the roommates, of course.

And lastly, for Caitlin's birthday, I made her the Wiksten shift! I mean, I finished it this last week, I did not make it in one week. My sewing projects are often just an hour here or there, but I usually get them done in time for gifting!

Hope you are having an amazing May!
